We know men like to look good and keep things simple, for that reason we have taken the time to list our best 5 healthy hair tips for men.

Best 5 Healthy Hair Tips For Men

1. Natural Oils Nourish the Hair

This might sound like common sense to a lot of you but after working in the hair industry for a decade or so, it has been made very apparent that most men shampoo their hair on a daily basis. Shampooing your hair daily is how you strip your hair of moisture and the natural oil, which will result in your hair becoming weaker, dull, and even frizzy. The natural oil your hair produces helps nourish, protect, and keep your hair healthy.

Our first tip for healthy hair is minimizing how often you wash your hair and switching to a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfate-free shampoos are known to help retain the natural moisture in hair. They can also reduce irritation/ inflammation: Because sulfates are harsh chemicals that can dry and irritate your scalp, making them a great choice for sensitive scalps. Another added bonus, if you color your hair, is that sulfate free shampoos can help retain color, among other benefits, like being great for all hair types and environmentally friendly.

2. Be Gentle with Wet Hair

This might sound a little silly but it’s just as important as the first healthy hair tip. Most of us fail to realize that our hair is actually at a weak state when wet, which makes it more prone to breakage. That’s why we suggest not being aggressive on the towel drying, pat dry instead or you’ll end up losing hair because hair tends to be extremely fragile when wet. So avoid vigorously drying your hair with a towel, blow dryer, and please put wash your hair in extremely hot showers because once a follicle or hair strand is damaged from the very top, it is gone forever. Also, try using a wide toothcomb when detangling your hair while wet, to also help prevent breakage.

3. Do Not Sleep with Wet Hair

As previously mentioned, our hair is in a fragile state and is more prone to breakage when wet. For this reason, it’s extremely important to avoid going to bed with wet hair. The fact of the matter is that as you toss and turn, friction will cause the hair to snap and break more easily than if your hair was dry. Another reason is that, the combination of water and warmth equals a rapid growth of bacteria. This might sound a little dramatic, but the truth is the heat from your head will make your damp pillow the perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria and mold. Changing your sheets can only help so much, seeing as the dampness from your hair will have penetrated into the pillow. So please, “Don’t Sleep with Wet Hair.”

4. Use Argan Oil

You might’ve heard of argan oil and all it’s benefits, but did you know it was rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The high content of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E make argan oil effortlessly help increase the hair’s elasticity and help neutralize hair damage from free radicals. Since, we’re a barbershop in west palm beach I make it a point to recommend argan oil to my clients because it will help hydrate those locks from the damage being caused by free radicals, heat, and the regular exposure to chlorinated swimming pools.

Argan oil in hair masks also help hydrate and repair hair, making it look shiny & feel soft and smooth. The vitamin E in the oil helps smooth distressed hair shafts and seal split ends while the fatty acids work toward strengthening your hair. Now imagine what leaving it on for 15 to 30 minutes, as a mask will do for you. Definitely worth the time and investment if you ask me.

5. Use Heat Protectant

 Did You Know?
High temperatures weaken the fibers of your hair. Contradictory to popular belief, turning up the heat on your blow dryer or hair straightener won’t dry your hair any faster. Using heat daily is also a no-no because more likely than not it will leave your hair feeling dryer and more brittle with every use. Using a heat protectant every time you apply heat to your hair will help limit the amount of damage.

You must always be careful not to overuse heat styling tools, but more importantly, if you over use heat on your hair also use a heat protectant spray.
